Facial recognition systems are computerized applications and automated systems that assist in the verification and identification of an individual, through a video or a digitalized frame. It is commonly done via the comparison of all facial elements and features that are selected first from a provided database. This system of facial recognition is used mostly for security purpose and it is similar to various biometrics, like, iris or eye recognition and fingerprint systems. The facial recognition system is a physiological one and it is used for measurement of mass security.
This is a computer application or a program, through which an individual is identified with the help of a video or a digital frame. The significant aspect of this facial recognition system is the ability to make a differentiation between the face and the background. This also helps in the identification of a face lurking in a crowd or similar situation.
A face has many distinguishing valleys, peaks and landmarks that make up the features. The system then compares these features of the face, along with the ones present in the database. The system uses 80 points of nodes or nodes that comprise the print of one’s face. These points are then made to measure and create a code in the form of numbers, which are representatives of database face.
The measurement process
The system measures in the following manner:
• Nose’s width
• Eye sockets’ depth
• Distance present between the eyes
• Cheekbones’ shape
• Jaw line’s length
Currently the system of face recognition is done along with high tech digital cameras and mobile phones as a user friendly feature. These are used mostly in banks and airports. The work to enhance the system and make it more accurate is still on. With technology, the system is becoming more effective and efficient and popular.
