Is shutting down the computer taking ages to complete? Do you think a hundred times before starting up your computer because you know the shutting down process is going to eat up your precious time? If yes then you need to take some measures to make the shutting down time faster.
There are many simple ways to fasten up the shutdown time of your computer. By disabling the function of clearing the paging file, forcing upon the shutdown process, getting rid of viruses if any and opening limited number of startup applications would serve the purpose.
If you are always waiting for several minutes before your computer completely shuts down you may choose to click on the option ‘Start’, then select ‘Run’ and type ‘services.msc’. This will load all the local services options, disable the ones you don’t need this will speed up shutdown time.
Another way that is easy to adopt and speed up shutdown process of you computer is limit the applications that open up at start up. Closing all programs too will speed up the process.
Click on the ‘Start’ button. Select ‘Run’ option and type ‘gpedit.msc’. You will be prompted with an option of ‘Shutdown- clear virtual memory page file’. Select it. This is called clearing paging file and is a great solution to your slow shutdown time.
A forced shutdown is a quick way of shutting down the computer system. What you will have to do is go on the ‘Start’ button, select ‘Run’ and type ‘C: WindowsSystem32Shutdown.exe-f’. This will immediately start shutting down the system, a great way to save time.
You must also keep checking in if any Trojan or virus has attacked your system. They must be removed immediately to prevent files from getting corrupt and help boost the shutdown time. Viruses are big threats to your computer. If you cannot do it yourself, seek help, but do get rid of them.
There may be many reasons why your computer system shuts down slowly. One of them could be that the system is running a number of programs at the same time. When too many programs are running at the same time and the system has to manage all of them its processing slows down and the system takes time in completing the shut down processing by closing all those running programs. So you need to have a minimum essential services or processes at the boot time, you can run `msconfig` then startup, then deselect all the services that are secondary keep only the essential ones, click Apply then restart.
It is also possible that some of those programs may be conflicting with each other hampering the shut down process. Such programs interfering with the shutdown process and incompatible with the hardware must either be removed or device driver software must be updated.
It is also possible that the system starts to reboot again by itself instead of shutting down. This is a problem that slows down the shutting process badly. This can be treated by right clicking on ‘My Computer’ and selecting the option ‘Properties’. Go to the advance settings option which is given for ‘Startup and Recovery’. Disabling the ‘automatically restart’ option will cure the problem.
So if your computer shuts down at a snail’s speed, go to the root cause and cure the problem.
