We have all heard about different chemical compounds like baking soda, carbon dioxide and calcium chloride but do we really know what exactly these chemical compounds are. Chemical compounds are chemical substances, which are made up of two or more chemical elements. Since every chemical compound is made up of two or more chemical elements you can break them again into simple substances through various chemical reactions.
Most of the chemical compounds are bonded together with covalent bonds, and therefore, you can easily define their chemical structure because they have a fixed amount of atoms in them to form that particular compound.
Chemical compounds have their individual properties, and therefore, they are very different from the original elements. This happens because when two or more elements are brought together, they undergo a chemical reaction that changes the physical and chemical properties of that substance and converts into a new chemical compound that has its own chemical and physical properties.
Chemical compounds are possible in all kinds of phases, and therefore, they exist in solid, liquid, gaseous and even in the plasma state. However, to break these chemical compounds you will have to apply extra pressure and heat. Every chemical compound has a unique CAS number through which chemists can identify the chemical compounds in the lab.
