We have all heard about fungus but do we really know what exactly they are? Fungi can be found on almost every part of the planet, and therefore, you can even find them in Antarctica where humans cannot survive.
Fungi is a kingdom of eukaryotic organisms that decompose the organic dead matter that is available and found in the soil. Hence, they are very important because they decompose all the dead substances found in the soil. Some of the most common fungi are molds and mushrooms, which are found on almost every continent on the globe.
Although many people often consider fungi as a bacterium but the fact is that fungi are not from bacteria kingdom, and neither do they fit in the animal and plant kingdom. So what separates them from the plant kingdom? Fungi do look like plants growing from the soil but their fungal cells have cell walls that are made up of chitin, whereas plant cell walls are made up cellulose. They are an important part of nutrient cycling because they convert the dead matter from the soil and decompose them and gather all the nutrients in them. Hence, mushrooms and truffles are considered as a food source that can provide us with a lot of nutrients.
Apart from that fungi are also used in industrial centers for creating products like bread, beer, wine and soy sauce. They are even used in the production of weed control and pesticides and detergents. However, not all fungi are useful to humans as there are some species of fungi that can be toxic to human health. As per the research by many scientists, it has been found that fungi Kingdom existed on Earth even before the existence of human beings and therefore, very little is known about how they were formed.
